Though most of the east coast has been hammered with snow, here in Lancaster County we are for the first time this winter, on March 5, getting an actual snowstorm of more than an inch or two. And I am getting an actual snow day, which means that I can work from home and enjoy the peacefulness of snow falling. I love the patterns of branches against a white backdrop.
And our majestic tree lightly frosted.
The backyard has some surprising touches of color.
And the snow continues to fall. . .

It’s time, I suppose, to take down the tree. But with nary a snowflake this season, and a wrongly-warm Christmas Day, I want to hold out awhile longer in hopes that we may be graced with at least a bit of snow. Besides, it seems that the sparkle of a tree is needed most in the winter gloom of January, to greet us at the close of the long routine of work days stretching into the months ahead.

Summer was kinder than usual,
only a handful of days topping 90
and windows open to a breeze most nights.
After her noncommittal showing, now she wants to linger, 80 degrees and sunny skies, with October just around the corner. But I’m gathering the last of the lavender under the changing dogwoods and know that she won’t be lingering long.
