Because my eyes are so light sensitive I move around a darkened house in the morning until I’m awake enough for jarring lights. If I had flicked the lights on I would have missed the bananas glowing on a shelf next to the basket of tea, lit by a single ray of light casting into the kitchen, seeking something to illuminate.

Ordinarily, at this time of year, in this part of the world, at this time of early morning,
the sun would already be casting uncomfortable heat.
But last night i slept with a blanket and today the first rays of sun against the house are countered by a breeze that calls for a sweater.
Grateful, I ease into the cool morning, coffee in hand, while the cat lounges beside me.
